In November 1897 the priest of Coustassa, Abbe Antoine Gelis, a neighbouring village to Rennes-le-Chateau, was brutally murdered in his presbetry. The motive was always unclear, but many suspected that it was somehow connected to the treasure that the Abbe Sauniere had discovered. When Ben Hammott discovered a signed confession from Sauniere claiming that he was responsible for the murder, Ben asked a retired Scotland Yard homocide detective, Colin Taylor, who now lived in the area, to take a fresh look at the case file.
